Shopping online for a metal detector helps to research and compare various types of metal detectors. Customers can compare different brands and models of metal detectors. Online shopping of metal detectors depends on various factors. They are price, selection, customer service, shipping and warranty.

Price is an important factor in online shopping. Most sites provide a price list for metal detectors. Some sites offer price discounts. Online shops allow the customer to select different products and set the price range. Customers can compare the prices of different metal detectors using this price range. Some sites provide free accessories along with metal detectors. There are discounts on bulk orders of accessories. Customers can select used metal detectors from online shops. Used metal detectors come with special discounts. The selection of the right metal detector is very important. Certain sites carry only a particular brand. Others display a wide range of metal detectors from different companies.

A few sites provide the field test reports of metal detectors. The customer can select the best brand by analyzing these reports. Most sites record reviews about their products. This helps to view the rating of a particular metal detector. Customers can request brochures of metal detectors online. For this, he has to fill the online brochure request form. But most free brochures are offered within a country. Customers abroad can get details of particular metal detectors through the hotline help.

Various online shops accept payment by credit card, charge card, cash, cheque and payment on delivery. Some online shops offer interest free credit over extended repayment periods. The facilities vary depending on the country. The customer has to check all these aspects before ordering metal detectors online.

Plenty of metal detector online shops provide customer service. Customers may contact online metal detector stores by email, chat or over the phone. After comparing costs, selection and customer service, a customer has to compare the shipping cost for metal detectors. Shipping costs vary with each online metal detector shop. Some sites include shipping cost in their price, while others charge extra for the same. Most metal detectors are insured. The guarantee period is based on the brand. Customers also have to check the warranty period and cost of labor for metal detectors. Delivery charges and time also depend on the country.

Metal detector reviews will help you find the best detector to fit your needs. They will help you check out reliability of particular manufacturers, makes, and models.

Metal Detector Reviews Are Beneficial

Metal detector reviews will help you find the best detector to fit your needs. Metal detector reviews will help you check out reliability of particular manufacturers, makes, and models. You should look at several different metal detector reviews prior to buying, to ensure you find a detector that will do all that you need it do, want it to do, all at a reasonable price.

What Will I Find In Such A Review?

Alerts: Detectors have an audio signal or beep, but by reading a review you will find out if the detector has a vibrating option, or a variety of tones to let you know the different types of metal you are detecting.

Depth: Metal detector reviews will let you know how far down (depth) the detector can sense metal. By reading metal detector reviews, you will find that some detectors can detect any metal object as deep as 12 inches, while some can not only detect, but also tell exact depth location.

Detection Mode: The metal detector reviews will also tell you information regarding detection modes. Usually there are detectors that have four different modes. These modes are relics (bullets, buttons, etc.); prospecting; coins; and jewelry. The metal detector reviews will let you know if you are able to use one of these modes alone, or if you can use two modes at the same time. If you use a single mode, you will have better success (or better chances) of finding what you set out to find.

Ground balance: Did you know the ground contains metal that occurs naturally in its soil? Detectors can tell you how sophisticated the detector is to find and cancel out those natural types of metals. The better makes and models of detectors will be able to tell you the exact types of metals you are looking for as you find them.

Battery life: Detectors will usually run on AA batteries, which will usually last approximately 20-30 hours.

Sensitivity: Metal detector reviews will be able to measure which makes and models have the best adjustable sensitivity ratings. This is an important factor when detecting, so you can distinguish between ground metals and your hidden treasures.

Display: Another topic metal detector reviews will cover is display. The display on detectors will vary from simple measures to complicated measures. Take a look at the models you are looking at to see what they have to offer in display.

Where Can I Find Good Reviews?

There are online sites offering reviews on metal detectors, makes, and models. Look at more than one site and review before making your final purchasing decision. Reviews are mostly opinions, so get a wide range to help you make your choice. You will be able to make an educated decision on your own, and have confidence it was the right one.

To protect the food source many companies use metal detectors to check for metal contaminates in the food, and some drug companies use the metal detectors to check for the same thing in drugs.

The main part of metal detectors is the control box, shaft, and search coil. Control box which has speaker, batteries, and microprocessor coordinates all activities. To protect the food source many companies use metal detectors to check for metal contaminates in the food, and some drug companies use the metal detectors to check for the same thing in drugs.

Besides metal detection, a walk-through metal detector includes and interface for an operator and a control unit plus environmental tolerance, electro magnetic compatibility, and the assurance of quality control. The control box is the brain of a metal detector. The magnetized metallic objects under the ground send a signal to the control box. Metal detectors that are used in mining need to be compact because of the space restrictions so the control unit and the search coil are integrated into a single unit.

This disk comes off the shaft at an angle, which allows it to be held parallel to the ground. Hand held detectors come in various types, professional, commercial, all-purpose, gold metal, beach and metal that is a relic. Many people use metal detectors to comb the beach for treasures, people are looking for coins, or any other type of metals that might produce a wealth of income. If you are walking along a beach you might come across many people with their instruments looking for these treasures. Since 911 security has gotten tougher and many airports and schools have turned to metal detectors, as well and government buildings, hand held metal detectors are often an important part of security procedures.

A great method of locating and preventing the use of dangerous items such as handguns or knives is the hand held metal detector. They are hand held security metal detectors and walk through metal detectors. Walk over or hand held models of metal detectors are normally used in airports.

Best rated walk through metal detectors have high target selection, low rate of false alarm, consistent detection, and a two way directional system. Cheap metal detectors are available in hand held, waterproof, and walk through models. Walk through metal detectors offer quick and effective processing.

Underwater metal detectors can cost around $400-$600. Underwater metal detectors are widely used to locate metallic objects under water. Underwater construction companies use underwater metal detectors for pipeline or cable locating functions. Some of the underwater metal detectors can adjust the search depth.

Advanced security metal detectors use low radiation x-rays for screening. Many metal detectors have microprocessor technology to check for coarse grained food in cornflakes, popcorn and noodles. Advanced gold detectors can also resist dust and moisture. Some of the advanced gold metal detectors have three modes for speed tracking.

Usually, the price of a metal detector starts from $65. Some sites offer price discounts.
Most sites provide a price list for metal detectors. The price of metal detectors may vary, based on features and functions. If you are just starting out it is a good idea to purchase an inexpensive model before sinking the dollars into the hobby.

The importance of metal detectors is growing day by day, as they are employed for all purposes from leisure to work and safety. Metal detectors of various types and prices are available now. Usually, the price of a metal detector starts from $75.00. But, the prices of metal detectors with most sophisticated features and functions, such as Garrett Master Hunter CX plus and Garrett GTI 2500, range from $500 to $1000. Discount metal detectors are a great way to acquire these high-end, expensive metal detectors at cheap rates. A better option for hobby, prospecting and security, discount metal detectors usually depend on the price, category and type of metal detectors.

Discount metal detectors always offer good value for your money, as they usually provide discounts between 20-40%. The normal price of a walk through metal detector is $750, but when discount is provided, it could be availed for just $450. Likewise, the discount price of a high performance gold detector with boost amplifier and tone control features is $2100. Sometimes, discounts enable us to own a metal detector for half the original price. For instance, the actual price of a light weight metal detector with the capability to detect concealed metal objects is $119.95. But, through discounting system, it can be acquired for as low as $59.95.

For best results, it is always advisable to buy discount metal detectors from an authorized dealer or outlet, since they come attached with some kind of warranty. Almost all the leading names in metal detectors, such as Bounty Hunter, Crayola, Edu Science, Fisher Metal, Minelab, Prizm series, Whites Metal, and Wild Planet offer their products at discount prices. Some of these brands even offer free shipping for purchases up to a certain amount.

People trading in the wholesale business of metal detectors also provide quality metal detectors at discount prices. This facility is mostly available for bulk buyers. In addition, used metal detectors can fetch cutting edge metal detectors for reasonable prices. However, it is always preferable to buy used metal detectors from reputable dealers, as they offer money back guarantee or a trade-in option. The prices of used metal detectors usually range between $275 and $700. Another way to purchase discount metal detectors is through closing down sales by local merchandise.

With the introduction of the Internet, consumers can go in for smart shopping with just a click of the mouse. A countless number of online dealers provide metal detectors at discount prices. In addition, websites such as BizRate.com carry information on all types of discount metal detectors, their prices and the stores from where they can be purchased.

However, it is necessary to keep in mind that discount metal detectors may not always satisfy your expectations.

The secret to the best metal detectors ever made is often overlooked by those searching to buy those elusive best metal detectors. The true secret is about to be revealed.

The secret to the best metal detectors ever made is often overlooked by those searching to buy those elusive best metal detectors. The true secret is really to find a detector that you are comfortable with, thus you will be more likely to learn the machine and be able to use it proficiently.

Being comfortable means different things to each metal detector user. To some, best metal detectors indicate those of a certain brand like the more popular White’s, Garrett, Tesoro and other manufacturers. To others, it is the physical feel and balance of a metal detector. It can also be a correlation to what the metal detector cost. Each of these will be explained below.

Probably the most recognized best metal detectors factor is how well the machine performs in the field, especially in terms of how deep it will detect. Typically, a comparison of major brands per price range will show little difference in capability. On occasion, I have found pronounced differences between two metal detectors of the same brand and model!

Some users, especially those that have been metal detecting for many years, classify the best metal detectors as those of a specific brand or brands. Like myself, I prefer some of the older models because I have had good luck with them in the past. This is all individual preference based on lengthy use and becoming familiar with certain machines. Each metal detector manufacturer uses their own circuit design, thus the audible and visual response to targets can vary between brands. This has been a factor in my best metal detectors decisions, especially when it comes to the tones emitted. Some brands just don’t sound pleasing to my ears, and I would miss targets because of it.

An important factor in finding the best metal detectors is to find one that physically feels good in your hands. One with a good balance allows you to swing it all day long without getting tired. The metal detectors of today have come a long way in this aspect. Most of the newer detectors are balanced really well. If you find an older, heavier detector that you must use, consider converting it to a hip mount configuration so you can relieve the problem of swinging a heavy weight. I converted a White’s Coinmaster 6000D Series 2 to hip mount and loved it! It was one of my best metal detectors for many years.

How complex a metal detector is can play a role in finding the best metal detectors to buy. Some people want a simple machine to just turn on and hunt and may be intimidated by a bunch of knobs, controls and programming. Many modern metal detectors of today are computer controlled, complex devices but most are made so even the new user can turn them on and go. The extra features are there in case you want to grow with the complexity of your detector as you gain more experience. With that said, it is advisable to not let this factor decide your best metal detectors.

The type of hunting you will be doing will play a role in discovering your best metal detectors. You may find that one brand is better for you to find old coins while another will be better at finding rings on the beach. For instance, some treasure hunters prefer Minelab metal detectors while searching for gold nuggets and switch over to Nautilus metal detectors when looking for Civil War relics. Some manufactures do target specific niches with their metal detector designs. Finding the best metal detectors for each of your treasure hunting interests may mean a different brand for each.

The actual cost can be of importance to some people when formulating their best metal detectors decisions. It is like the saying of you get what you pay for. Buying the top of the line metal detector made by a manufacturer may be all it takes to find your favorite. This can be true in some cases but the top machine from one company may not hold a candle to a mid-range model from another. Also, some of the best metal detectors I have used have been older models that are not even made anymore.

As you can see, there are many things to consider when finding the best metal detectors. It will vary from person to person and can only be found through use. A user may swear by one but it may not be right for you. You may need to use several over a period of time to find your best metal detectors but don’t give up. With practice in the field, you will find them!

A metal detector is an electronic device employed to detect traces of metal, generally from the ground, a person, or cargo. Metal detectors can effectively penetrate through soil, wood and other non-metallic materials.

A metal detector is an electronic device employed to detect traces of metal, generally from the ground, a person, or cargo. Metal detectors can effectively penetrate through soil, wood and other non-metallic materials.

How does it work?

Metal detectors use the principal of electromagnetism. Typically, a metal detector comprises an electronic box, transmitter, a receiver antenna and a battery case. By battery power, the transmitter generates a magnetic field. If a metal item passes through the metal detector, it becomes magnetized due to the effect of the magnetic field. On receiving the electromagnetic signature, the receiver sends a signal to the electronic box. There is a speaker to amplify this signal. This produces a beep sound, indicating that there is metal contamination.

What are the different types of metal detectors?

Depending on specific situations, different types of metal detectors are available. For example, there are metal detectors exclusively for prospecting gold. Likewise, special metal detectors are available for relic hunting. Underwater metal detectors, coin detectors, and walk through metal detectors are other prominent types. Multi-purpose metal detectors are also popular nowadays.

What is product effect?

When passing through the metal detector, some food stuffs tend to generate a signal although no metal is present in them. This is known as product effect. It is mainly due to factors including acidity, fat content, moisture content, salinity and temperature.

What are the factors that affect the sensitivity of metal detectors?

Product effect, size and type of metal contaminants, and metal detector opening size are some of the factors that affect metal detector sensitivity.

What is the warm up time for metal detectors after the power is on?

For accurate detection of metals, metal detectors must be allowed to warm up for at least 30 minutes after the power is on.

Can burned and rustic metals be detected using metal detectors?

Yes. But, the detection sensitivity is based on the shape and orientation of the contaminants. In addition, it is difficult to detect minute particles.

Can metal detectors detect non-metallic contaminants?

Metal detectors cannot detect non-metallic contaminants.

What are the accessories required in metal detecting?

Among the accessories required for metal detecting are gloves, probe, knife, gator digger, and ground cloth.

What are the precautions to be taken when cleaning metal detectors?

To clean the main unit of metal detectors, hot water less than 40 degrees centigrade can be used. The dirt and particles present in the detector head must be cleaned frequently. It is also necessary to clean its conveyor belts. Neutral detergent and a plastic brush with soft bristles can be applied for the purpose.

There are many different types of metal detectors such as those used for security at airports but I want to write about the hobbyists detector and the various technologies which allow
metal detecting finds to be discovered under a layer of earth (or water).

A lightweight hobbyists metal detector usually consists of four parts.
1. The search coil. This is the part that is actually used to sense the metal and is also known as the loop or antenna.
2. The shaft. Self explanatory, usually lightweight and adjustable. Joins the search coil to….
3. The control box. This contains all of the electronics required to decipher the signals recieved from the search coil. It can also have a display, headphone jack socket and is usually where the batteries are installed for the metal detector.
4. Stabilizer. Most modern detectors have one to help with the sweeping motion of the detector.

There are three main types of technologies used in metal detectors but I will concentrate on the most common today:
1. Very Low Frequency (VLF)
2. Beat frequency Oscillation (BFO)
3. Pulse Induction (PI)
The most common one in use today is the VLF technology.

There are two distinct coils used in the search coil; transmitter and reciever. The transmitter coil sends out an electromagnetic pulse which interacts in the ground with any conductive objects it encounters. The returning signals are then recieved by the reciever coil and passed to the control box. This is a very simple way of explaining it and in a future article I will explain in more detail how technology is used to ‘discriminate’ so that the metal detector can give an audible tone allowing you to tell what type of metal it is likely you have found.

The other two types of technology are more suited to other uses in metal detecting which I hope to cover in future articles for example pulse induction (PI) technology is better suited to making
metal detecting finds in salt water and beat frequency oscillation (BFO) technology is a very simple system more often found in very low cost metal detectors.

This post is taken from an article I wrote on scribd a while ago.

Craig Mills of Newport, South Wales, had been metal detecting for only nine months when he uncovered some iron age items described as ‘of great importance’. He discovered two bronze bowls and a bronze wine strainer, all of which are decorated in the late Celtic or La Tene style and are believed to have been made around AD25-60. They were buried shortly after at the time of the Roman armys campaign against the Iron Age Silures tribe of South Wales.

Adam Gwilt, curator of the Iron Age Collections at the National Museum of Wales, said: “This metal detecting find is of great importance for Wales and the UK. Similar bowls have been found in western and southern Britain, but few find-spots have been carefully and recently investigated by archaeologists.

“It seems these valued and whole containers were carefully buried at the edge of an ancient bog or lake, as part of a ritual offering.

The items were declared treasure trove by Gwent coroner David Bowen and it is hoped they will be displayed at the National Museum of Wales in 2010.

Not Peter Barker Jones from Flintshire in Wales. Archeology enthusiast Peter was walking in a friends field when he found a coin on the surface. He went back to the same spot a year later and this time made an amazing metal detector find, another two coins!

The coins, pictured above, were silver pennies dating between 1307-1314 covering the reigns of Edward I and his son Edward II. John Gittins the deputy coroner for NE Wales has declared the coins treasure under the Treasure Act 1996.

Peter doesn’t usually use a metal detector as he normally scours the field for pre-historic items such as flint tools which he has found hundreds of, some dating from as far back as 2000bc, but hopefully after this find he’ll take one along just in case!
